Jim Bashaw

He coached from 1981-1995 at B.F.A. of St. Albans. In 14 years at the varsity level, his teams won 214 games, made 9 final four appearances, and 2 state championships. He is a past Vermont-New Hampshire senior all-star game coach. Coach Bashaw always found a way to teach his players not only to be successful as ball players, but he taught them to be successful in life. His energy and infectious smile will always live on in the lives of those who knew him. He passed away in 2000, Jim Bashaw. Accepting wife Shari Bashaw.

Frank Bizzaro
He coached from 1960-1997 at Bennington Catholic, Mt. Anthony Union, Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Brattleboro Union, North Country Union, and Lake Region Union. In 37 years at the varsity level, he brought 5 different schools to the final four. He coached 2 state championship teams. He coached the 1st Vermont- New Hampshire senior all-star game. He was the Vermont coach of the year in 1965. He was known as a developer of basketball programs. He passed away in 1999, Frank Bizzarro. Accepting wife Kathy Bizzaro.

Ed Burke
He coached from 1959-1977 at Winooski H.S. and Burlington H.S. In 18 years at the varsity level, his teams went to the finals 10 times and were state champions 8 times. His first four years at Winooski were state championship years. He went to 2 New England High School tournaments with Winooski and won the New England tournament in 1962. He was Vermont coach of the year in 1972. He was past president of the
Vermont Coaches Association. He passed away in 2000, Ed Burke.

Bernie Cieplicki
He coached from 1960-1978 at Rice Memorial H.S. In 18 years at the varsity level, his teams had 317 wins and 3 state championships. His teams won several northern league titles. The gym floor at Rice is named in his honor. He was instrumental in the development of C.Y.O. basketball in Vermont. His legacy continues today as his sons and grandsons continue to coach and play the game of basketball. He passed away in 1999, Bernie Cieplicki.

Joe Corey
He coached from 1986-2002 at Arlington Memorial H.S. His first 6 years were as a varsity assistant. In his 10 years at the varsity level, his teams won over 150 games, made 5 final four appearances and 1 state championship. He was named M.V.L. “C” Coach of the year 4 times. Joe had a strong passion for the game of basketball and was known as a coach who took care of his players. He passed away in 2002,

Lenny Drew
He coached from 1955-1991 at Williamstown H.S., Lyndon State College, St. Johnsbury Academy, and Montpelier H.S. He coached 32 years at high school varsity level with 383 wins and 4 years at the college level to raise his overall record to 419 wins. His teams made 7 final four appearances, and 2 state final trips. He is a past Vermont-New Hampshire senior all-star game coach. He was past president of the Vermont Coaches Association and one of the founders and past president of the Vermont Boys Basketball Association. He passed away in 2001,

Dave Fredrickson
He coached from 1963-1999 at Arlington Memorial H.S. and Mt. Anthony Union. In 36 years at the varsity level, his teams won 505 games, 31 tournament appearances, made 17 final four appearances, 10 trips to the finals, 8 state championships, and 18 league titles. He is a 3-time Vermont-New Hampshire senior all-star game coach. He received several league coach of the year awards as well as national publication coach
of the year awards. He is a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and the V.P.A. Hall of Fame. He is currently the Executive Director of the V.B.C.A. Dave Fredrickson.

Mona Garone
She coached from 1970-1996 Bradford Academy and Oxbow Union. In 36 years at the varsity level, her teams won over 500 games, made 31 final four appearances, 18 trips to the finals, 10 state championships. Her teams won 14 league titles and had 5 undefeated seasons; she was a 4-time Vermont-New Hampshire senior all-star game coach. She was the recipient of several state and national coach of the year awards. The
Oxbow gym is named in her honor. She set the bar for girls’ high school basketball in Vermont. She passed away in 1998, Mona Garone.

Dean Houghton
He coached from 1952-1965 at Poultney High School. In 13 years at the varsity level, his teams won 3 state championships. In 1967 he was awarded the Ralph Lapoint award for outstanding contributions to Vermont sports. From 1962 -1990, (28 years) he was the VPA Basketball committee. In 1994, he received the Marble Valley Leage Lifetime contributions award. He was one of the few administration who was not
only deply involved in administration of athletics but also cared greatly about the coaches and the students involved in the game. Mill River honored him by naming their gym after him. He passed away in 1997, Dean Houghton.

He coached from 1930-1961 at West Rutland H.S. In 31 years at the varsity level, his teams won 321 games, and 7 state championships in an 8-period. He was a teacher, principal, superintendent, and coach. In his time of coaching, West Rutland played in the southern Vermont league. He is a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. At West Rutland, the gym is named in his honor. He passed away in 1982,

Leo "Bundsie" Keefe
He coached from 1943-1964 at Rutland H.S. In 21 years at the varsity level, his teams won 333 games, with 3 state championships and 1 runner up. He, along with Frank Hinchey, were pioneers of the Southern Vermont League. His teams won several Southern Vermont league titles. His teams went to the New England Basketball tournaments. The gym in Rutland is named in his honor. He passed away in 1981,

Dave Kinsman
He coached from 1969-2002 at West Rutland H.S., Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Castleton State College, and Rutland H.S. In 22 years at the varsity level, his teams won 318 games, 20 tournament appearances, 11 final 4 trips, 5 state finals and 3 state championships. He coached the Vermont-New Hampshire senior all-star game 3 times. At one time 5 of the 6 boys and girls coaches at West Rutland, M.S.J. and Rutland High were his former players. He is past president of the Vermont Coaches Association and Vermont Boys Basketball Coaches Association. Dave Kinsman.

Jean Robinson
She coached from 1963-2002 at Burlington H.S. and Essex H.S. In 37 years as a varsity coach, her teams won over 623 games, made 15 appearances in the finals, won 8 state championships, and 12 metro league championships. The 623 games her teams have won are the most victories of any coach in Vermont Basketball history. She had numerous undefeated seasons and a run of over 60 consecutive victories. She set a standard for other coaches to reach in girls’ basketball.

At the first home game of the 2011-2012 season, Essex High School recognized long time coach Jean Robinson by naming the court in her honor.

Bob Rowe
He coached from 1969-1997 at Peoples Academy. In 28 years at the varsity level, his teams won 340 games, 3 state final appearances, 1 state championship. His teams won several league titles. He coached in the Vermont-New Hampshire senior all-star game. He also was Director of Guidance at Peoples Academy. He not only prepared students for life on the court but for life off the court. He was a great father figure to his players. Bob Rowe.
