Dear VBCA Member,
Summer is almost
over, the Red Sox are closing in on the playoffs, can the start of basketball
be far behind?
With this in mind,
let’s get started by joining your state coaches’ association (V.B.C.A.) and
registering for our annual clinic, November 3rd and 4th
at U.V.M.
Why join the
association? First, it’s the
professional thing to do. Second, your
guest
pass lets you in free to regular season games to scout or just for a
night out. Third, it makes your players
eligible for the Senior All Star Game, Scholarships (14-$500 awarded this year)
and various other honors and awards.
Fourth, you stay in the loop regarding upcoming events, votes etc.
Fifth, discount on our clinics. For $30 how can you go wrong? ($35 if you join
after our November 3-4 clinic.)
Clinic details are
on a separate sheet, suffice to say we have another fine clinic lined up for
you.
The VBCA Coaches
Hall of Fame has been very well received. Check our web site for who’s in and
how you nominate coaches. This year we
will induct ten coaches, but after that the number drops to five per year, get
your favorite coach in now!!
The Twin State
Rotary Games were exciting. Coaches
Serrani and Pecor had the teams ready and eager. The players enjoyed the experience, but we
lost both games.
Reminder if you’re
interested in being considered to coach the game, let me know ASAP as we
want to have our coaches in place before the season starts.
On the topic of
volunteering—we need pollsters to vote on our online coaches poll, a popular
rating of the top teams in each division if you have email and are interested
let me know.
At the annual
meeting at our clinic, we will fill the following positions for the executive
board. If you’re ready to help “make basketball better” and will attend four
meetings, be ready to volunteer at the clinic.
Positions needed to fill—Boys D1, D2, D3, and D4 two, Girls D1, D2, D3
two, and D4.
I hope to hear from
you all shortly when you join the VBCA and see you November 3rd and
4th at the clinic.
Sincerely,
Dave Fredrickson

Holiday D1 coach of the year at Brattleboro will do a workshop on Game Film in
your Program.
This
workshop will provide ideas and techniques with DIGITAL FILM to use your game
films in productive ways. You could come
and listen and question. You could come with a Mac computer and try some of it yourself. You could come with your “film person” to be
trained to work side by side with you — you’re providing the “film person” with
what you need and that person is learning film editing.
The
workshop would be shown on a screen with a projector so it will be easy to
follow. The idea is to allow you to get
comfortable with film and making MORE EFFICIENT USE OF YOUR AND YOUR PLAYERS’ TIME!
A
sample Highlight Film will also be shown and storage of game film — even over
many year will be demonstrated.
After this workshop
we hope all will attend our informal coaches gathering at The Wind Jammer
Restaurant.
The Wind Jammer Inn
will once again host our group. Call
toll free at 1-800-371-1125 (group #404572). $65 for a double – same facility
as our workshop and coaches’ social.
